"Simply Cheap and Delicious"
Indonesia is famous for its unbeatable fantastic fried rice, and if you are a fan of fried rice, this street food stall in Surabaya is surely my go to recommendation to spend a nice street food style dinner with friends or family.
Pic1. Your Regular Indonesian Style Street Food Stall
It is called Nasi Goreng Ranjau which means Mine Fried Rice. Indonesian people like to use extreme stuffs such as devil, bomb, fireworks and many others, to describe the hotness or spiciness of a food. In this case they use "mine" to describe the explosive taste of the fried rice.
They have quite several choices in their arsenal, ranging from chicken, fish and other seafood products. Here are the menu that they serve.
Pic2. Wide Variations of the Menu
They don't only have fried rice, but also fried noodle and cap cay (stir fried vegetable). Here you can also request the level of hotness that suits your taste. The price is also very cheap, ranging from Rp.12.000,- up to Rp.25.000,-. It is equal to around $0.9 up to $1.9. Very cheap isn't it!
Unfortunately, the place is not quite spacious and only accommodate up to 20 people. If it's packed, you have to wait for other customers to finish before you can sit. Also, they only have one cook to deliver your order. You'll have to wait for quite long when you come in busy hour.

Pic4. One Professional Street Cook Doing his Best
I ordered Nasi Goreng Tongkol (Mackerel Fried Rice) with the regular level of hotness. The fried rice is perfectly cooked. The texture is not too soft and not too hard. The taste is also perfect! not too salty with a little bit kick of hotness. You will also taste a little bit of MSG flavor that tickles your tongue. However, I hardly found any chunks of mackerel on my fried rice, only very small shredded parts of the fish meat. What do you expect from a food that cheap? But I guarantee you that the mackerel taste is absolutely there and overall, it is a great fried rice!!

If you are somehow in Surabaya, and looking for a great fried rice experience. I really suggest you to try Nasi Goreng Ranjau. Its simplicity, complimented with a great taste and street food atmosphere will surely make it worth your time and money.
