"One of the Oldest East Javanese Cuisine Restaurant in Surabaya"
If you are looking for an original experience of East Javanese Cuisine? The you have come to the right place. Warung Sederhana Gubeng Pojok has been there since my mom was in high school, and it has always been her favorite place to go. Cheap prices, complimented with great tastes and old school vibes, what else you can ask?
Pic1. Quite Spacious with a Lot of Tables and Long Stools Provided
The place is Located around Old Gubeng Railway Station, right before Sahid Hotel. You can immediately feel the classic vibes as you enter. The place is quite spacious with a lot of tables and long stools provided. You will see the menu straight away on the wall and you can order directly by asking the staffs around. The price is also very cheap! Some of the menu mostly cost you around Rp.11.500,- per-portion or around $0.86. How is that even possible?! The most expensive menu which are Ayam Penyet (Fried Chicken with Sambal) and Ayam Goreng (Fried Chicken) only cost you Rp.15.500,- portion or around $1.16.

I came with my family and ordered several dishes to try. There are Pecel Lele (Fried Catfish with Sambal), Ayam Penyet (Fried Chicken with Sambal) and Bakmi Godog (Javanese Style Noodle Soup). I also ordered Wedang Jahe (Ginger Drink) that is served with real chunks of sliced ginger. Most of the food we ordered are lightly spiced and we like it very much. Not too salty, too sweet or overly spiced. The Fried Catfish and Chicken are crisp on the outside and still moist in the inside. The combination of Sambal (Indonesian Chili Paste) and the rice really blends them well. What I like the most is the Javanese Style Noodle Soup! If you are looking for an authentic Javanese Style Noodle, then come to this place! because they serve it perfectly. The broth is not quite heavy and just lightly spiced. There are some chunks of fried chicken on the noodle and they also top the noodle with tomatoes and some mustard greens to balance the flavor. I think it was the best Javanese Style noodle soup that I have eaten in Surabaya.

One thing that I also like is the Ginger Drink. They serve it the old school way! Using chunks of sliced ginger and pour it with boiled water. Very simple and classic! You can taste the original ginger flavor that gives you soothing and relaxing experience. A perfect way to compliment your meal!.

Overall, it was a really nice experience for us! and we'll surely comeback again! One quick fact, even they have quite spacious place, they do not provide enough parking space for customers. The place is always packed and if you are unlucky, you will have to wait for someone to finish before you can park your car. But it should not be a problem for you if you are using motorbike or public transport.
